The Little Mermaid

Just a few photos to share of Ella, Carl and I playing our new favorite game, 'The Little Mermaid". We cut out a paper seashell bra and a fin for Ella, I was later informed the bra is actually the wrong color - it's suppose to be purple but we only had pink construction paper. And Carl got to be Sabastian, hence the crab claws, but as you can see he also played the role of King Titan which is why he gets a crown as well. I played flounder...fortunately for me this role didn't require a costume - don't ask me why. But I did get called 'Flounder' the rest of the weekend and if Ella ever slipped up and used my real name she quickly followed it up with "Umm...I mean Flounder?"

A Drive By Vacation

Since Carl had a snowmobile race in West Yellowstone, Montana a couple weekends back (which by the way he took second place in the Pro category!) we decided we might as way travel a few hours extra and take time to visit my older sis, Elizabeth and her family since they live in Montana. Turns out we picked the worst travel weekend this winter and spent most of our time driving each other crazy as we drove miles out of our way around the state. Okay - not really but our return trip went from about 6 1/2 hours to 9 hours from Hamilton, Montana back to Boise...all of the roads leading into Boise were shut down and we actually had to travel all the way down through Sun Valley and Shoshone and then back up through Mountain Home. Plus, I managed to develop on ear infection during this little excursion so that by the time we got home I was in tears and completely deaf in my left ear. It is absolutely no wonder that little babies scream their tiny heads off when they get ear infections! Poor little things - those are incredible painful!
Anyhow, the trip - despite all that, was well-worth it! My little neice Brianna took quite a liking to Carl and spent the whole weekend saying 'Ca-wal', 'Hey Ca-wal', 'Where's Ca-wal?' You get the idea. I couldn't get her to sit with her Auntie Em if I bribed her! Not while Ca-wal was there at least. He even took her on for a spin on his brand new race snowmobile.

Too Loud But Loving It!

But at least Brianna had a little quality time together during the weekend.

Ella's Fourth Birthday Party

Overall I would say we had a pretty succesful birthday celebration for Ella this year. We had all the family over including my parents, sister and her boyfriend - and I'm happy to report that the families seemed to get along without a hitch :) (at least by all appearances).

Naturally, we had a princess theme and invited all knights and fair maidens to attend - which turned out to be around 30 people! My mom and I made a Princess Cake with a Barbie in the middle and the cake as the skirt...it was my first attempt and it ended up looking more like a Barbie stuck in cake than anything else but it tasted better than it looked so it wasn't a complete loss.

Here's a couple of my favorite photos from the big event:
